Q: Where is The Webster Apartments located?

A: We are conveniently located on West 34th Street in midtown Manhattan between 9th and 10th Avenues.  It’s only a short walk to the 1, 2, 3, A, C and E subway lines, a five minute walk to Penn Station and Macy’s Department Store, and only ten minutes to walk to the Empire State Building.

Q: What are the requirements to apply for a room at The Webster?

A: Guests must meet one of the below requirements to apply and remain eligible for residency:

  • Worker: Working a full-time job, a minimum of 35 hours per week, earning an annual GROSS income between $30,000 – $85,000 (USD).
  • Interns & Fellows: Minimum commitment of 28 hours per week in internship or fellowship program

 

Q: How do I apply?

A: Inquiries for applications may be sent via email, phone, fax, mail or in person. If you already live in the New York area, we will require that you apply in person.  Applicants must be over 18 years old to apply for residency.

Our Office of Admissions is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. eastern standard time (EST). Upon inquiring, please be prepared with the following information:

  1. Where you will be interning or working in New York
  2. Annual Salary, Internship Stipend Payment, etc.
  3. Preferred arrival date and length of stay

If you meet our residency requirements, we will send an application to you by email.  Eligible interns and workers will be asked to return the completed application, proof of internship or employment, and a non-refundable application fee via credit or debit card on our secured online payment method. The application fee vary based on employment status: Interns – $250, Domestic Workers – $275 and International Workers – $400. A credit report will be processed for workers which includes collections, bankruptcy and eviction reports.

 

Q: What will I need to pay prior to check-in?

A: In accordance with Webster’s minimum stay policy, guests are required to pay their first four weeks of room & board at least 2 weeks prior to check in.

After the initial 4 weeks, your room & board will be due bi-weekly. Payments may be made using any of Webster’s accepted payment methods (see below).

 

Q: How long can I stay?

A: Our minimum stay is four weeks. Permitting guests maintain eligibility, they may stay for up to five years (cumulative).

Q: What are your room & board rates*?

A: Worker rates are determined based on a sliding scale dependent on the individual’s verified GROSS annual income. For 2017, monthly rates average between $1,100 -$1,800.

Interns who are unpaid or receive a small compensation pay a flat rate. For 2017, the monthly rate is $1,520.  Interns receiving substantial compensation are charged based according to the sliding scale noted above.

* Rates are subject to increase at the discretion of the Webster Apartments.

 

Q: What is included in my rate?

A: Included in your rent is a furnished single room with personal sink, two meals daily, weekly housekeeping services, Wi-Fi and all Webster events and amenities, and 24 hour security.  Communal showers and restroom areas are located on each floor.

Q: How much notice do I need to give when I want to move out?

A: All guests are required to give a minimum of 8 weeks’ notice prior to departure by signing the checkout form at the Front Desk. Failure to provide 8 weeks’ notice prior to departure will result in a $600 penalty fee.

Final payment for any balance due for rent or telephone must be made two weeks prior to departure.

A full copy of this policy inclusive of terms, conditions and fees can be requested from the Front Desk at any time during your stay.

Checkout time is 11:00AM on your date of departure.

 

Q: What will you provide in my room?

A: Our rooms are the size of a small, single dorm room.  They are approximately 10’x12′ (total 115 sq. feet) They all have a window and a closet. We provide a bed, dresser, desk, bookshelf, chair, sink, medicine cabinet, mirror and bed linens. Toilets and private showers are just down the hall.

Q: What time is check in?

A: You may check in any time after 3:00pm. We are happy to check you in any time thereafter, no matter how late. You can make special arrangements with us to check in earlier.

Q: Is there anything special I should bring?

A: You may bring anything that makes you feel at home!  We suggest a small shower caddy to carry your shampoo and soap to and from the showers as well as a robe and a pair of flip flops.  For more specifics on what Webster permits our guests to bring, please contact our Guest Services Coordinator.

Q: Where can I do laundry?

A: We have three laundry rooms in the building with extended hours 7 days a week.  Laundry rooms feature coin-operated washers and dryers and a coin machine is located in our lobby for your use.

Q: Can my friend visit me?

A: Female and male friends are welcome to visit you at Webster. They must sign in and are welcomed to stay until midnight.

Men are never permitted above the first floor unless accompanied by one of our staff members. You may arrange to have a female friend stay overnight on a cot in your room for $50 per night (including breakfast.) You can make the arrangements at our Front Desk.

Q: Can I bring a refrigerator? Can I cook in my room?

A: We do not permit refrigerators or any cooking or heating equipment in rooms, not even coffee pots. You will not have access to a kitchen, but we do have a microwave, filtered water and ice available for your use in Community Room on the 2nd Floor.

Q: I have special dietary needs. What are my options?

A: For various reasons, we are not able to provide individualized menus for special dietary needs and it is ultimately the guest’s responsibility to make dietary choices fitting their needs. While the Webster Apartments Dining Services Team strives to provide accurate nutritional information and offer an ingredient list upon request, manufacturers may change their product ingredients without our knowledge and our recipes may be subject to change due to product availability. Please consult Food Service Managers and Supervisors if we can support you with your decisions or provide further dietary information.

Q: Do I have the option of not eating my meals at Webster or not using your housekeeping services and paying a lower rate?

A: Weekly rental charges include two daily meals. Webster does not offer discounted weekly rent for individuals who choose not to take advantage of the meals.

Q: Will I have access to the internet?

A: Free Wi-Fi is available to all guests. Pay-to-use computers are available in our Library for 10¢ per minute and a printer for 50¢ per page are available as well.

Q: Is there a curfew?

A: We do not have a curfew. For security reasons, we lock our Front Door at midnight. You can ring our doorbell after midnight and we will let you in.

Q: I will be staying at Webster during the summer. Is my room air conditioned?

A: Although Webster does not have central air, air conditioners are available to rent for a nominal seasonal fee.
